[ OPEN/CATCH-ALL ] the crickets still sing in october.
WHO: dextera! and others!
WHERE: all around town, in a variety of places!
WHEN: october!
WHAT: an open prompt for quest 29’s skeletons (eating them), and whatever else comes up!
WARNINGS: he’s eating bones.
i. NO BONES ABOUT IT (OPEN)
[ dextera used to have a pretty healthy habit for eating bones—it used to be his thing, in fact, but lately he hasn’t had as much of a reason to eat them with all the color popping back up around town. they still provide some nutritional value to him, though, considering the way his body works, and what better to start hoarding for winter than by disassembling skeletons and biting right through their brittle bodies?
throughout the month, catch him doing this exact thing. sometimes he defeats the skeletons before chomping them, and sometimes he just rips the arm off one with his teeth like a dog. the latter, however, he’s only doing if he thinks no one is watching. ]
ii, but new. SEXY NUN COSTUME (~10/17 - 10/19)

ii, but new. SEXY NUN COSTUME (~10/17 - 10/19)
[ dextera got this costume from carving a pumpkin, and it’s probably going to stay on him for a solid three days. he can’t hide in his house for the whole time, especially once the harvest festival starts up, but he also doesn’t want to be seen in it—so of course, people have to see him in it, because that’s the way rp works.
whenever he does have to leave his house, he tries to wear a coat, but the unfortunate reality of this outfit is that still leaves his habit, the jewelry, the socks, and the heels to see from practically any angle. a more discerning eye will definitely see upon looking at him from the front that he’s wearing a dress that was definitely meant for someone with breasts. he’s wobbly walking around in the first place, and it’s only by the grace of god that the few times he trips, the back of his coat is long enough to keep from flashing his ass to the world.
let him die! ]

…
[ he looks away. ]
I use them.

[ she's trying not to judge, but she did once see him try to drink tea that she specifically said was too hot to drink. and now this - it alarms her honestly. ]
no subject
…
[ it’s not like they aren’t useful, but the ones he’s found in town don’t do the things that he wishes they did. they’re not much better than the sweat bones he finds around the tower, which, obviously, just make him sweaty. ]
For… hunger.
no subject
Dextera... you don't need to eat them. [ this time said softer, because it's dawning on her that he's attempting to eat these bones because he's done it before. and that's significantly worse than what she thought this was. ] If you're hungry there are plenty of things here to eat. I could make you something if you really need it right now.

he almost feels guilty about it, actually, because it seems like zelda is feeling pity for him over something that he really feels is a completely normal part of his existence. he eats bones. he knows it’s weird, but it’s fine! (it’s not fine.) ]
…I don’t want to waste them.
[ he says, as if there isn’t a skeleton ambling towards them right now with bones ripe for the pickin’. ]
no subject
[ said like it isn't the most obvious thing in the world, because this is what dextera truly believes so she can't demean him in the hopes that it will help. gods. but yes that skeleton sure is... coming... slowly... man these things are sad, but she still hates them. ]
Here. [ and she'll just offer him up her skeleton arm club. ] Club them with this. It's fragile but it gets the job done.
no subject
…
[ he takes the arm with a nod, and waits until the skeleton is in proper range… then swings with all his strength, which turns out to be way too much strength because it’s like hitting a baseball off a tee at a little league game. the skull goes flying. ]
Ah.
the mental image of this tag is perfect, thanks
Nice swing. [ like, surprisingly nice? she did not think dextera had that in him, but you learn something new every--
CRASH!
--day. ] So much for that skull.
[ meanwhile the skeleton is now waving its hands around the empty space where its skull was, before it collapses in on itself. zelda just smiles. ]
We should make a game of this. It'd be fun.
[ stop her. ]
they’re having fun
…
[ … ]
You don’t like skeletons?
no subject
[ unless it's like, a scientific sort of skeleton used for research? but those are usually not cursed to continue walking upon the mortal realm. buuut she does feel like she should better explain her behavior-- ]
My homeland has a curse upon it that gives birth to monsters, much like the ones we encounter in the woods. At night however, the ones slain in combat reanimate themselves into an army of the undead. They're usually still smart enough to stay outside of town, but not always.
[ gotta love hyrule! ]

I don’t know about a “game”… but we can destroy more.
[ maybe she has some pent-up rage. ]
no subject
As we should! They don't seem like much, but they can start overwhelming the town if we don't keep them at bay. Greater forces can lead to more danger.
[ she's definitely doing this for altruistic reasons and has no bias whatsoever against evil forces. none. anyway, she kneels down to grab the arm of the skeleton who dextera struck a homerun with so he can keep the arm he borrowed off her. ]
If you're going to collect these bones, I suggest the arms. They're very effective weapons, even if they only last a few hits before shattering.

The spine…
[ with the collapsed skeleton nearby, he picks up a handful of vertebrae, and withdraws a piece of thread from his pocket. it’s the world’s most macabre set of christmas lights, as he strings the small round bones along the thread for easy carrying.
these are what he wants to collect. ]
no subject
Just... don't chew in public. You'll worry people.
[ and she's already plenty worried about him in a multitude of ways. ]
no subject
…
[ dextera nods, tying off the thread with the bones he’s collected before pocketing them once more. they’re safe and unchewed, so isn’t that good enough? ]
no subject
Come along. I'll lead the way - I've been wanting to see your power in work again, but we can always take turns clubbing their heads off.
[ he made an impressive shot, so she has to do better now too. ]
no subject
he follows her, dutiful as ever. ]
They’re pretty… weak.
no subject
To better elaborate - if they can enter town, does that mean any monster can now?
[ it's the most outstanding part of all this. the skeletons, while weak and easy to take out, can be a sign of bad omens to come. ]
no subject
I wonder if… we can put up barriers.
no subject
[ large swaths of monsters appearing in ways they never have before makes her immediately fall to dire prediction. though she tries to retain optimism, truth is she's still a pessimist at heart. ]
For now we just have to keep them at bay. And hope nothing worse happens.
no subject
Tell Guren your worries.
[ and in the meantime… there’s another skelly trying to get the jump on zelda, but very slowly. ]
no subject
"Don't worry about it, Princess, we'll handle it like always."
[ it's a terrible, terrible impression of guren's voice and has her trademark Fantasy British™ accent still in tone. is it mean to dunk on his boyfriend? maybe, but it's fun and they're having a good time.
speaking of good times, she waits for the skeleton to get right up close and then extends her hand out to channel her seal. a quick flash of light and the skeleton bones drop to the ground, the curse within extinguished. ]
no subject
[ dextera can’t help it. when zelda makes fun of guren so gruffly, the combination of aspects about it makes him bark out a laugh, and he keeps his hands clapped over his mouth while he watches her destroy the skeleton.
it collapses, but he’s not sure what was more impressive—her power or her impersonation. ]
Very good.
no subject
Alright then, it's your turn. [ she takes a large step back so that dextera can be up ahead of her, grinning. another skeleton is coming up hot (or cold, in pace.) ] Show me what you've got.
no subject
…
[ as soon as the skeleton is close enough, dextera pulls his hand back in gearing up for a punch—and his hand illuminates with that familiar holy glow, before he throws all his strength into swinging at it.
rather than shattering upon impact, it dissipates. ]
