[The fluff stops chewing and turns her head to look at Kohaku with wide blue eyes, gray tipped ears twitching in her direction.]

Her name is Ayame. Ayame-chan, this is Kohaku.

[Rin grinned huge, shifting so Ayame could see Kohaku a little better. Surprisingly the kitten seemed absolutely fearless, instantly stretching out to sniff at the girl curiously.

Rin was so excited by Kohaku getting to meet the little fluff finally that he actually forgot he had another reason for her coming over. Most of his color was restored by now but he needed that little bit more. Thankfully it wasn't as noticeable as it had been with Vriska. There was some faded gray towards his roots and a little saturation left in his eyes but it was only really visible upon close inspection.]

Ignis' cat had kittens and I asked for one.

[He'll remember eventually.]

I had a cat familiar back home, but he's not here. Ayame is... really different but I'm totally happy to have her! She's already gettin' spoiled.

[She loves chin scritches and is absolutely leaning in to it. There's a faint, tiny purr coming from her already. She likes you new human!]

Rin even holds her out for Kohaku to take. Clearly Ayame has no problem with her.]

Two months, I think? Maybe gettin' close to three? I can't remember how long ago it was they were born.

[Ayame is content with this, though Kohaku will find her fingers are now the focus of nomming even as she continues to purr from the petting.]

Yeah. Ignis found the mom not that long ago.

[When they had the portals back to that small section of their own world.]

But I'm gonna take good care of her! She'll grow up big and strong!

[He hands Kohaku a small toy he made out of a rag and some twine.]

Pro'ly. I never got to have a pet when I was little. Yukio and I even found a stray puppy and tried to take care of it in secret, but Dad found out and had it adopted. Yukio cried harder than I've ever seen him cry that day!

[Rin flopped on the couch next to them, watching Ayame with a smile.]

I get it, though. We were technically a boy's home. Anyone we brought in coulda had allergies or be afraid of dogs or whatever. Plus we weren't exactly rich.

I was upset at first, but seein' how excited the family was to have a puppy made it okay. I told Yukio that it was better that way 'cause if somethin' happened at the home we might have to give him away anyway, and this way he was goin' to a forever home.

[Rin smiles faintly at the memory. Yukio had always been so kind and caring when they were young. A gentle boy with a big heart.

Somehow Rin wasn't all that surprised that being an exorcist had buried that part of him.]
