[ OPEN ] Player plot - camping mingle log!

Who: ANYONE (Defense force & any guests, invited or not!)
Where: The Forest
When: 10/14-10/15
What: A camping trip in the forest! What could go wrong?
Warnings: None currently. Please let me know if I need to change this to add warnings!

Nestled in a clearing surrounded by the colorless half-dead trees, the various shades of gray leaves scattered across the ground making a nice crunch when stepped on, is the campsite made for the trip. It's not a fancy affair as one would expect from the limited resources, but has a sense of homeliness to its step-up. At the start of the day tents are erected, the largest ones to store the supplies for the next couple days, and a fire bed is made toward the center of the space for the campfire that will start up as the sun sets closer to night.

The sound of wildlife is everywhere, from chirping birds to cricketing bugs, and distant pattering steps of animals who are smart enough to not crash through what is sure to be a populated area in their territory. If you ignore the eerie sounds of the incomprehensible whispers coming from every direction, it’s almost enough to be normal. It'll be a chilly day so everyone should be wearing appropriate clothes for the weather, but the good news is that there'll be a lot of sunshine from the thankfully restored sun!

Sad that the forest itself is not so festive, but at least the fire at night will be a warm mix of purple and red, with the firewood turning dull merlot underneath the contact. Sunset turns the sky into shades of purple, and when six o’clock hits the sky will turn a sharp dark blue with the stars lighting up the night for the rest of their evening.

i. Daytime Events (14th or 15th)
[Thankfully, their trek into the forest doesn’t take too long at all. Just as had been mentioned, the campsite is just far enough to make the town out of sight, and feel a little out of reach, but not so deep that there’s any immediate danger. Things start early on the 14th, and after their night over in the woods, they’ll stay well into the 15th before returning, as well. There are a large number of things to do at any time, so it’s time to get started!

    a. Hunting
Everyone is going to have to eat throughout their stay in the woods! That means there’s some work cut out for those who are capable of hunting, and maybe even those who are a little less than capable. There are the normal mutated animals throughout the woods— extra limbs, wings when there shouldn’t be, too many teeth, and so on. Remember, sometimes that means that a friendly woodland squirrel can shoot out fire, so be careful! That’s not the only thing you’ll have to watch out for, either. There are certain parts of the woods that will cause character powers and abilities to go wonky. They may suddenly be unable to use them, lack control of them, or become significantly stronger. These issues only occur in certain pockets of the forest, so you may step into it one minute and out of it the next!

    b. Gathering wood
The next thing that everyone’s going to be needing before nightfall is firewood. That means knocking down and cutting up trees however you can! You’ll still have to watch out for those pocket areas of the forest that may mess with your powers and abilities, and on top of that, it seems not all gray trees are created equal. Certain trees, if chopped down and lit on fire, will induce effects such as suddenly feeling more affectionate or suddenly feeling completely belligerent. Have fun.

    c. Activities
With business out of the way, you can finally relax and have some real fun! There are areas set up for a variety of physical games such as tug of war, sports you can play with a ball (it’s probably not the right type of ball, but work with it here), and of course the obstacle course (that begins easy and slowly turns more difficult) that Zelda has lovingly constructed for everyone. Of course, there are also games like hide and seek that you can play, or get creative and come up with something yourself!

    d. Morning after/Wrapping up
Whether you slept in a tent or beneath the starry sky, morning comes eventually, and the second day of the trip begins. Was it a comfortable rest? Maybe the affection-causing fumes of the fire have you a little too close to someone nearby. However it is that you wake up, as soon as the sun begins to rise, things begin to take motion again, and Guren won’t let anyone sleep in for too long. Get up and help out, go have your ordered fun.

Of course, once the day nears its end, it’ll be time to pack everything up and head back to the town. Hopefully you’re not too exhausted. There’s plenty to help with, and any slackers can expect to be nagged into helping— unless you manage to slip away. ]

ii. Nighttime Events (14th)
[Night falls, and the usual whispers from between the trees that can never be understood seem more apparent. Everything is more quiet, a little spookier, but it’s time to settle in and get some sleep. Or maybe you’re not ready to sleep just yet! There’s still so much that can be done, after all.

    a. Ghost stories
A camping classic for everyone. Sit around the fire and tell ghost stories, or funny stories, or any stories to a listening group. Try to scare someone out of their wits if you dare. But be warned, as the woods want to play along too. You won’t even realize it until the bone chilling tale is over and no one in the group had ever uttered a word.

    b. Night watch
Members of the Defense Force (and anyone tagging along interested in joining or willing to help) will be assigned a specific time or rotation to stay watch. It may be a fun camping trip, but the dangers of the forest are real, and no one wants to end up hurt. Keep an eye on the will o the wisps nearing the outskirts of the camp, just in case anyone is too curious for their own good, but otherwise, at least everything looks relatively safe. The hardest part may just be staying awake.

    c. Cookout
With food hunted from the wilderness, it’s time to get to cooking it! Do you even know how to cook a rabbit with four ears? Hope so. Or maybe you just decided to stick with berries from the plants. One way or the other you need to eat and you need to cook your meal. Might be a good idea to grab someone for help if you’re completely clueless.

    d. Campfire
As the fire roars starting at early evening and throughout the night, take the time to relax next to the warmth. Even as the forest whispers at night and pixies might try to steal your belongings if they think you aren’t paying attention, after a long day there’s no shame in some downtime. Why, you could even sing some SONGS to get on everyone’s nerves because what brings a group together like 100 bottles of beer on the wall when everyone wishes they could get drunk? Luckily there are plants that only require brief contact on accident to help loosen you up for it.

iii. Events for Day or Night (14th or 15th)
[Of course, there are some activities that aren’t limited by daylight or nighttime. Relax around the fire, warm yourself from the cold, and have fun!

    a. Card/board games
Sad to report that there is no monopoly in Chroma. That said there are plenty of classics here for people to take part in. Care for a game of chess or checkers? If you want to stretch your wits and poker faces, there are few card decks that old and worn but still usable. Make it interesting by throwing out a bet! They’ll be available for those who especially don’t like roughing it out.

    b. Chatter
If you want to pass the time, why not take part in some conversation games with your teammates? All in good fun, no? Truth or Dare, Two Truths and a Lie, Never have I ever, Would You Rather -- anything goes so long as you’re willing to play the game.]

iv. Extras (14th or 15th)
[Aside from all of that, there are a number of general events that can occur at various times throughout the stay in the forest. Many of these can be included or combined with any of the above prompts, so keep that in mind!

    a. Pixies
There are thieves in the forest. Pixies will be stealing weapons and belongings the second your back is turned, so watch out! They can be found in the woods and recovered, but you’ll have to track them down to retrieve them, so you might want to ask for some help.

    b. Plantlife
Certain plants in and around the campsite, if touched, will induce effects such as: looser inhibitions, a drunken sort of feeling, and a general discarding of sensibility. There’s also the firewood mentioned up above. Certain trees, when chopped down and lit on fire, may induce effects such as suddenly feeling more affectionate or suddenly feeling more belligerent.

    c. Will o the wisps
Once nighttime hits, the campsite will be surrounded by glowing lights. Thankfully, they’re benevolent right now, since everyone is so close to the town, and won’t exert any influence on characters. If your character would try to follow them despite that, however, it would lead to something that heavily contradicts the tone of this camping trip, and you’ll have to contact the mods to see what happens. Be warned that there are heavy risks! Maybe just admire them like fireflies from afar, instead? Or save a friend from straying too far.]

OOC. Notes
Like it says above, this event is open to everyone! Defense force members are “forced” (icly, not oocly, obviously) to come, but anyone else is invited, and even if they’d rather crash instead of RSVPing, that’s fine, too. If you need it, the OOC information and plotting post is over here for your reference! If you have any further questions, or if you need to add a warning to the log, PM me or message me at [plurk.com profile] zeloser! That being said, if anything somehow ends up getting NSFW in any of those cute little tents, please take that to your own character journals so I don’t have to lock the entire log. Otherwise, have fun!!

Ah... If Mutsunokami had already explained it, you could have said so, Archer-dono. But hopefully his explanation was helpful to you in some other way.

Tonbokiri perks up in curiosity when the man admits that he also has a true nature. And it is with an even mix of surprise and excitement that he replies,

"Is that so! I had no idea that there were others like us. May I ask for you to tell me more about yourself, then? Like what you are a spirit of?"
noholdsbard: (Life would B flat without knights)

[personal profile] noholdsbard 2018-10-28 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Archer-dono hadn’t realized that it all applied to spears too, all right? Besides, there’s that all-important distinction between spirit and object, which is not so far removed from his own situation itself.

“For my master’s sake, I cannot reveal my true name. But there isn’t any harm in my letting you know that I am the spirit of a man who has long since died. I am essentially ‘him’, for I retain all his memories and the legend surrounding his life. And yet I cannot be him, for he was mortal, and had died many years since.”
youwillbeunequaled: (| serious thinking)

[personal profile] youwillbeunequaled 2018-10-28 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Now it's Tonbokiri's turn to contemplate the confession.

It's... It is... He props his chin on his hand, trying to make sense of it.

"That you are the spirit, memory, and legend of that man, but not that man himself..." Sheathing his spear, he runs his hand slowly down the sheath, and pinches the small beaded decoration between his fingers. Tadakatsu... He then looks back up to Archer-dono with a nod.

"I believe I understand. Better than I thought I would be able to." Mysterious, how 'that' mission would come to mind at a time and place like this. His heart sends out gratitude to Monoyoshi, wherever he is now.

"By any chance, do you have comrades who are like you? Others who are the spirits of great men from the past?"
noholdsbard: (Time to lute and plunder)

[personal profile] noholdsbard 2018-10-28 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Tristan smiles and nods in silent understanding. He knows little of Tadakatsu Honda, and merely assumes that Tonbokiri is referring to the legacy of his weapon. After all, even objects must live up to the legends surrounding their owners, right?

But to that question, he answers, “Ah, indeed I do, though none of them have appeared in town so far. It is very sad…” For one thing, he can’t definitively prove to Mutsu that Nobunaga is a girl all along. Woe.
youwillbeunequaled: (] bittersweet memory)

[personal profile] youwillbeunequaled 2018-10-29 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
(Woe, indeed.)

"Yes... I was alone for some time, myself. While I do not wish this situation upon any of my comrades, it is also encouraging to have them at my side.

"If I may ask further, I am curious if you perhaps know of Honda Tadakatsu, or Tokugawa Ieyasu?" He could rattle off a few more names, but this is enough of a rabbit trail as it is. It would be sufficient simply to know that they exist in Archer's world. Also--
"The way that you called my skill 'peerless', it somewhat reminded me of them."
noholdsbard: (Sail le vie Iseult)

[personal profile] noholdsbard 2018-10-29 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
“Lord Ieyasu, perhaps.” There’s a limit to his historical knowledge from when he’d been summoned, after all.

“But I had not known that they were such fine warriors that one such as you would consider them peerless.” But this is the sort of thing that would have had their legends sung through the ages by bards and musicians such as he, and is therefore of paramount interest.

“Perhaps you might enlighten me further as to their great feats of valor.”
youwillbeunequaled: (] see it with my own eyes!)

[personal profile] youwillbeunequaled 2018-10-30 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
One such as him? P-please, such a compliment... Yet just what did Archer-dono glean from that bout so full of Tonbokiri's inexplicable and unwarranted fury?

More than that now though, is the invitation to speak about the glories of his former master! Tonbokiri's expression lights up, and he gestures towards where Archer had been sitting tuning his harp at the very start of all this. Let them take a seat.

"It would be my pleasure. Absolutely, I can tell you all about them. I was the spear of Honda Tadakatsu, who was the loyal and powerful general of Lord Ieyasu. Because of his tremendous fighting prowess, I could be named one of the Three Great Spears of Japan. He was truly unequalled in battle, never receiving a wound over a hundred campaigns. His boldness and tact gained him compliments from even his enemies. The warrior who surpassed death itself, Honda Tadakatsu."

(How long do you have, Archer? Because Tonbokiri will happily launch into any number of stories about that great man. Feel free to get a word in edgewise when he takes a breath...)
noholdsbard: (Life would B flat without knights)

[personal profile] noholdsbard 2018-11-01 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Tristan follows him gladly, his hands idly tuning his harp as he hangs on to Tonbokiri’s word with great interest. Don't worry, he's got all day. He certainly doesn’t seem asleep now despite appearances.

“A man like that must be quite the fearsome foe.” It makes him wonder how the other Knights of the Round would take to such news. But Chaldea is already full of such great warriors already, some of them even from Japan.

“And the way you fight…you take after Lord Tadakatsu’s fighting style, is that correct?”
youwillbeunequaled: (] we are all together at last)

[personal profile] youwillbeunequaled 2018-11-01 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
He has never before had such a rapt audience for his stories of Tadakatsu- a fact that Tonbokiri shares at some point in his tellings. He is grateful to share the history of his former master, especially to one who did not know of him.

He smiles proudly and nods- indeed, a most fearsome one.

"Yes. I was used against many skilled men, so I have an understanding of a wide variety of techniques. However I follow his style and none other." He tilts his head curiously. "Do you likewise follow the fighting style of the man whose spirit you carry?"
noholdsbard: (Life would B flat without knights)

[personal profile] noholdsbard 2018-11-01 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
And Tristan is ever grateful to learn more of the histories of other realms—but more than that, he is happy to make a new friend, especially one who reminds him so much of the kind of people he usually spent time with in his old life.

“I do, but the way I fight is nothing like yours. The man I took after might be skilled, but he was no great warrior like your master, nor was he a warrior in the same way that others of his order are.” There are, after all, men who fight out of necessity and men who fight for glory and honor. Tristan simply belongs to the former.

“And I must admit…while I admire a good fighting man, I do not take much pleasure in the act myself.”
youwillbeunequaled: (Default)

[personal profile] youwillbeunequaled 2018-11-02 01:53 am (UTC)(link)

Ah, so it is like that. "I understand. Even among swords, there are those with purposes other than battle."

He leans forward in interest. "But for now, I would be interested to hear about you and your comrades in your 'order'. If there are more things that you must withhold in order to protect your master, I understand. However please be assured that I can keep whatever you tell me in confidence."

noholdsbard: (Life would B flat without knights)

[personal profile] noholdsbard 2018-11-02 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
“Well, in this case, I do not mind speaking of the others.” After all, he’s pretty sure most of them are more famous than he is anyway. And he doesn’t have to name names here.

Smiling at the memory, he continues, “I once was a member of a fellowship known as the Knights of the Round Table in Britain. It was the gathering of all the finest men of chivalry, sworn to defend their king and country.”
youwillbeunequaled: (] see it with my own eyes!)

[personal profile] youwillbeunequaled 2018-11-02 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, that's right. That's what had sounded familiar. His tone carries a slight sense of awe at the company this man belonged to.

"That is splendid. I have only recently come across a story of that fellowship, because I have been reading the books in the library. I admit, I was captivated by such heroic tales. They felt similar in theme to stories from Japan, yet refreshingly different in every other sense. Now, speaking to one who was once a member of the Knights of the Round Table, I am excited to know that there is some truth to those stories."

And, such a chivalric spirit is indeed a kindred spirit to him!
noholdsbard: (Sail le vie Iseult)

[personal profile] noholdsbard 2018-11-02 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Where have you been all his life—

“You do me an honor, my friend. I am merely a footnote to their stories, but you are certainly comparable in skill to the best of them. I certainly wish I could have met your liege lord myself.” But alas, neither man is available in the gacha just yet.

“I feel that there is much to learn still from the great warriors of the Orient.”
youwillbeunequaled: (] bittersweet memory)

[personal profile] youwillbeunequaled 2018-11-02 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
(Alas, in another castle game; and alas, that production team should get on that.)

"I can say the same - there is much that we have learned from Europe already, so certainly even more can be gleaned. There are so many fascinating things from overseas!" From bathtubs to steamships, and stories about their colourful historical figures...

Tonbokiri then shakes his head and smiles reassuringly. "There is much to be learned from those who are not warriors, as well. You may think yourself a footnote, but your presence was undoubtedly necessary for your comrades."
noholdsbard: (Time to lute and plunder)

[personal profile] noholdsbard 2018-11-02 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
“Is that so?” he says quietly, and there’s a touch of sadness in that as he plucks a plaintive little note on his harp. He’d left his comrades behind a long time ago, after all. There’s a lot of regret to be had with the Knights of the Round as well—especially when it had come to such a disgraceful end.

“Well,” he continues, trying but unable to maintain his former cheer as his demeanor grows more somber, “Perhaps that might be so. But after all, even the greatest warriors are merely mortal.”

[personal profile] youwillbeunequaled 2018-11-02 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. He meant to reassure him, but it seems he triggered a bad memory instead. Picking up on the change in atmosphere, Tonbokiri frowns down at his hands for a moment.

"Yes, they are." Tadakatsu too- evading death on the battlefield all those times, to find his end while woodcarving.

When he looks up again, he focuses on the harp.

"Archer-dono, you are also a musician? It is impetuous of me, but... would you be interested in learning a song of the Mikawa samurai?"
noholdsbard: (Life would B flat without knights)

[personal profile] noholdsbard 2018-11-02 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Tristan looks up at that suggestion with surprise, before realization dawns on him, and he nods with a soft smile.

“It is not impetuous at all. I would love to hear and play the songs of other lands, if only you deem me worthy of such an honor.”
youwillbeunequaled: (] bittersweet memory)

[personal profile] youwillbeunequaled 2018-11-03 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course, I deem you worthy of it."

Straightening his posture, he (unnecessarily) clears his throat before taking a deep breath and singing,

Spring is my favoured season
It ‘minds me of my love
Who’d come running to kiss me
With sakura in her hair
I pressed those petals to ‘mind me
How she soft pressed ‘gainst my lips
I shall return home next season
And see hydrangea in her hair

Summer is my favoured season
It ‘minds me of my love
Who’d come running to kiss me
With hydrangea in her hair
I pressed those petals to ‘mind me
How she deep pressed ‘gainst my lips
I shall return home next season
And see chrysanthemum in her hair

Autumn is my favoured season
It ‘minds me of my love
Who’d come running to kiss me
With chrysanthemum in her hair
I pressed those petals to ‘mind me
How she long pressed ‘gainst my lips
I shall return home next season
And see camellia in her hair

Winter is my favoured season
It ‘minds me of my love
Who’d come running to kiss me
With camellia in her hair
I pressed those petals to ‘mind me
How she tender pressed ‘gainst my lips
I shall return home next season
And see sakura in her hair

Ah, perhaps it's because he's sung it for two others in Chroma, but even he can think that he sung it well this time. Which is good, because it would be terribly embarrassing to falter in front of someone who is clearly a musician.
noholdsbard: (Life would B flat without knights)

[personal profile] noholdsbard 2018-11-03 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
Tristan’s fingers ghost over the harp strings, as if committing each phantom note to memory as Tonbokiri sings. And when that song ends he heaves a deep sigh and smiles a wistful little smile—

“To think that even samurai could be so romantic…” Truly, they are similar to knights in many respects. “That was beautifully sung, my friend. I felt as though my own lover had been beside me, listening through it all.”
youwillbeunequaled: (] bluebird of happiness)

[personal profile] youwillbeunequaled 2018-11-03 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thank you, you are most kind." The compliment makes his face warm in a blush, but he is most grateful.

"That is indeed the feeling that this song is meant to invoke, so I'm glad I could do right by it. It was sung by the men when they were far from home on campaign."

And now he is a little curious- but he also doesn't want to bring up sad memories for Archer if he has a lover back home.
noholdsbard: (Staying composed)

[personal profile] noholdsbard 2018-11-03 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
“A warrior must always be on the move, after all,” he agrees, thinking back on his quest for the Holy Grail so many years ago. His knight-errantry notwithstanding, he recalls that others had to be pressed into service during the first of the Crusades.

“It is sad that it must be so, yet we cannot protect our homes and our loved ones without leaving them entirely.”
youwillbeunequaled: (] bluebird of happiness)

[personal profile] youwillbeunequaled 2018-11-03 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is true. However, a battle at your home's front door is not desirable, either."

He shakes his head slightly- he wanted to speak about something lighter than this, but perhaps this is the way it is between warriors.
At least, there is one other topic he can try-

"If I may ask, do you have a song that you often sung with your men?"
noholdsbard: (Life would B flat without knights)

I think we can start wrapping this up?

[personal profile] noholdsbard 2018-11-03 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That’s Tristan for you—a downer no matter where he goes. Though he does notice that Tonbokiri’s trying hard to change the subject, and he has no reason to oblige.

“Oh, I have several. I would be happy to perform them for you, if you wish.”
youwillbeunequaled: (] see it with my own eyes!)

Certainly ^.^ "And they chatted happily ever after~"

[personal profile] youwillbeunequaled 2018-11-03 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"By all means. I would be honoured to hear your songs."

For all that his acceptance is formal, his expression lights up in delight.

(When the opportunity presents itself, he will certainly have to invite Archer-dono over for a bath and drinking sake, and they can have another leisurely conversation...)
