[She looks so worried, though...]
Do you need me to go first?
no subject
Of course! But not because I’m scared of ghosts or anything! [She’s just going to have him walk first so he can be her shield.]
no subject
I never saw them inside the school. [That would be reassuring if seeing them at all wasn't a problem.] But that's normal school. Who knows with this school from another world stuff!
no subject
Against her better judgment, she hides behind him anyway and walks with him into the school, one hand reaching out to hold onto his sleeve.
If anyone asks, it’s not because she’s scared. She’s just going to use him to sense the ghosts if there are any. Get to sensing, Keigo.]
no subject
[No spirits roaming the halls so far. Just the two of them and all that green.]
My first year class is right over there. If we check out one classroom, that's enough, right, and then we can leave?
no subject
[It’s quiet but even then the only thing that puts her at ease is that they’re not wandering these halls in the night or something. That would have been way too much.]
And it depends? Is your first year class known for being haunted? [Because if it is, she’s leaving right now. No good comes from exploring haunted classrooms in abandoned schools.]
no subject
[That's reassuring, right?]
no subject
And whether they’re called Hollows or whatever, they’re still spirits and they’re unscientific and shouldn’t exist. [And them being big only makes it worse. She holds tighter onto his arm this time as they walk. (Not entirely unlike the way someone would hide behind a ballistic shield as they advanced through danger, actually.)]
no subject
[Has she never read a manga?]
I won't argue that they shouldn't exist. [He's had a similar thought on more than one occasion. Usually with a side of whyyyyy meeeee?
However, despite his ability to constantly find new ways to feel sorry for himself, Keigo has yet to make the human shield connection. Instead, the way Shiho clings to him is making him feel a bit bolder. He's the expert who can accept the existence of ghosts here, and she's relying on him.
It helps that he hasn't seen or felt anything in the hallways. It's nothing but an empty school, making it easy to be brave.]
But whatever they are or aren't, they're not here.
[He slides open the door of the classroom with what he intends to be a manly, dramatic flourish. It's just a door sliding open.]
no subject
Still, manga reader or not, she’s going to continue clinging to him. Partly because there’s just no one else to cling onto. She’s not sure though if it’s annoying or calming that he’s feeling brave. Well at least there are no ghosts anywhere to be seen so that’s a good thing.]
...What was that for? Trying to give the Hollows so much second-hand embarrassment that they leave?
[Because the flourish he had expected to be dramatic was terrible.]
no subject
[Of all the people to fail at looking cool in front of, it had to be Shiho.
He notices it wasn't embarrassing enough for her to stop hanging on to him.]
So this is what my classroom looked like. You're standing at the site of my high school debut.
no subject
....I hope your high school debut went better than what you just did now.
no subject
[Part 1 and Part 2 of a key moment she might read from him as he remembers the lowest points of his first months of high school.]
no subject
She covers it up with a cough and a long pause as she reins it all back in.]
Oh. That’s too bad.
no subject
You don't really think so. You were thinking of a way to insult me!
no subject
[If anything, he should be proud of her.]
no subject
I guess it's better than actually insulting me.
[His standards are proven to be low.]
Is there anything you'd like to know about the school besides how no one truly appreciated my coolness?
no subject
Hm... anything you want to tell me, maybe? Just...
[And here she pauses before frowning at him:] Just not about Hollows. [Not because she's scared or anything though!!!]
no subject
[Her non-existent because she's not scared anyway secret is safe!]
We used to eat lunch on the roof. Do you want to check out the view? [Then again, their path into the school started mid-hallway. Is this even the full Karakura High?] Do you think there's a roof?
no subject
The roof, huh. We can go take a look. [If it exists. But she’s happy to go along for now and make fun of him later if there ends up being no roof.]
no subject
If they walk by anything different, like the art room or the first time they pass by a set of restrooms, Keigo points it out, but otherwise he focuses on making sure their world isn't going to end in a sudden drop off.
It doesn't. And when he pushes one final door open, there is a roof. Keigo almost tries for a dramatic presentation, but he remembers how that went. He just steps aside.]
Here we are.
no subject
He can't win though because Shiho gives him a raise of an eyebrow as he opens the door sans flourishes.]
Aww, no big reveal this time? [why is she like this]
no subject
It's a roof. That's the part that's supposed to wow you.
[Walking to the edge of the roof and slumping over the railing seems like the mood of the moment. That's when he notices the first problem with this world. When he looks out over the school grounds, he can see the gymnasium and athletic fields, but the farther he tries to see beyond school grounds, the more the image blurs.]
Everything's fuzzy. Do you see that, too?
no subject
[But she’s walking with him anyway, hands letting go of his arm to touch the railing.]
Huh. You’re right. ...Where do you usually look when you’re up here?
no subject
[It could have been impressive.
Oh good, she sees it too, so he's not going blind from stepping into the portal.]
Usually I was talking to my friends, so I wasn't really looking anywhere. [He would check the track for girls running.] But this school's on the edge Karakura. You should see buildings from the town over there.
