WHAT: Building a better ~~mousetrap~~ chicken coop! In preparation for breeding more chickens, naturally.

[ If you hang around Bluo much, you’ve probably seen that one yard with the fence and the chickens (and chocobos) running around outside - but today, it’s bustling with activity of a different sort!

Joshua and Estelle are hard at work, surrounded by an assortment of lumber gathered from the more dilapidated buildings in town, and toiling away on a half-finished...something? It looks rather like it could be a chicken coop, if you’re familiar with what those look like, but it’s definitely got room for more than the five that are helpfully wandering around the yard and in and out of the way.

It’s coming along well! Mostly. ]

Estelle...you realize you’ve got that board upside-down, right?

....It has sides?

[She turns the board this way and that, frowning slightly as she examines it.

Things are definitely Going at least. At least this particular project doesn’t involve glue.]

That's the plan! This way we'll eventually have more chickens running around. Well, baby chicks at first, and they're so cute when they're little.... But eventually we'll have more eggs to go around for it.

[ dextera has noticed that leliel likes to sit on anything she can find. she’s maternal, even though dextera doesn’t want her actually becoming a mother—he’s worried it would be hard on her, thinking too much of human motherhood. how can leliel afford the college tuition of all those chicks… ]

Yep....! New babies in the family. I think you'll like baby chicks-- they're small and fluffy and fit in your hands when you hold them.

It'll nice to see the family grow too, right? I mean we've already got a lot of people here, but.... It's nice, having a lively house.

[Her smile softens a little but her happiness is clear. Yes she is counting the chickens in this bizarre idea.]

[ dextera would count the chickens too, and this is absolutely the definition of counting chickens before they hatch, but for once in his life he feels optimistic about where things are headed. this kind of hardy, day-to-day town life suits him. he can focus on any number of tasks that have immediate results. ]

[She blushes, clutching a wooden board a little more tightly because boy she doesn't want to say this but she really should, considering--]

I'd really like you to help anyway, since the names I chose kind of sucked.....

I think you've got the better naming sense. Leliel has such a pretty name!

[ dextera blinks. everyone is asking him to name things, but he feels like the only name he could come up with in the first place was, indeed, leliel’s. ]

I like their names.

[ he needs to defend her first!! the names are sweet, even if they’re a little morbid as well. ]

[ dextera has never even had a pancake, so he doesn’t have a flavor to match to the poor bird. instead, all he can do is simply hope that pancakes the food are as fluffy and lovable as pancakes the chicken. ]

[ dextera likes estelle’s laugh. whether it’s shy or nervous or genuinely happy, he likes to hear it—many of his friends here aren’t as open as estelle is, so even with all the people he gets to know, the novelty of cheer is still strong. ]

Let’s finish the coop first.
