WHO: Estelle, Joshua, and YOU?
WHERE: Outside the Bluobros house
WHEN: Julyish
WHAT: Building a bettermousetrap chicken coop! In preparation for breeding more chickens, naturally.
WARNINGS: Probably not unless you bring them yourselves, u sinners.
[ If you hang around Bluo much, you’ve probably seen that one yard with the fence and the chickens (and chocobos) running around outside - but today, it’s bustling with activity of a different sort!
Joshua and Estelle are hard at work, surrounded by an assortment of lumber gathered from the more dilapidated buildings in town, and toiling away on a half-finished...something? It looks rather like it could be a chicken coop, if you’re familiar with what those look like, but it’s definitely got room for more than the five that are helpfully wandering around the yard and in and out of the way.
It’s coming along well! Mostly. ]
Estelle...you realize you’ve got that board upside-down, right?
....It has sides?
[She turns the board this way and that, frowning slightly as she examines it.
Things are definitely Going at least. At least this particular project doesn’t involve glue.]

Um... so which side again....?
no subject
[ Look at this boy, actually measuring instead of just throwing boards together. What a killjoy. ]
no subject
[She'll turn the board this way and that, until her eyes finally land on the mark he'd made with a look of surprise.]
Oh....! I missed that.
[She'll flip it over to the right side, nodding to herself. She'll have to check every one before she puts them into place, huh...?]
Eheheh... This is a bit more complicated than it looks, huh?
no subject
[ They could make it completely lopsided and it would be much easier! Let's be real, the chickens probably wouldn't care.
But Joshua would. ]
no subject
Oh!
...yeah that might stink when it rains, a bit...
no subject
[ It seems straight enough, where he's holding a piece of the frame up, but it's hard to be sure, up close. ]

damian was kind enough to deliver one from god-knows-where some time ago, but it’s certainly not big enough for any more than the chickens they already have. leliel may spend plenty of time inside the house, but even just four birds is a tight fit. what exists can, at least, be shifted around and repurposed… assuming no one accidentally destroys it in trying to recreate it.
leliel is held lovingly in his arms, while dextera watches joshua move this along and estelle… do her best. ]
Should we ask someone?
no subject
[ Or, at least, he's got this, although if Estelle has actually put any of those boards on backwards then he may need longer to get this. ]
no subject
…
[ dextera sets leliel down and she immediately tries to flap her way back into the fenced-off area because that’s where she wants to be, so he scoops her up again. maybe it’s inside time. ]
Do you want water?
no subject
[ Proper hydration is the foundation to a successful construction project!
Or perhaps not really, but nobody in this yard is going to faint if he has anything to say about it, regardless. ]
no subject
[ dextera shakes his head, hefting leliel slightly as if to say do i look busy?, but the point anyway is that he isn’t. right now, his job is to just keep all the birds out of trouble, and if he gets a little deviation to bring josh a glass of water, it means leliel can go inside for a bit.
a moment later, dextera returns with… okay, god bless him, a bucket of water and two old cups, because this seemed like the most efficient way to help. ]

Thank you.

[She shoots Dextera a small smile, hefting another board. There are two kinds of people.]
How are the girls doing? They aren't freaked out or anything, right?
[....She means the chickens. Dex is the chicken whisperer, after all.]
no subject
They’re fine.
[ he lifts leliel in his arms to show estelle, and leliel seems surprised that she’s moving. she’s a hungry chicken, not a smart one. he moves her so she’s sitting on his shoulder instead. ]
She wants it to be finished.
no subject
Excited for your new home, are you girl? I hope it's up to snuff!
[She glances from the feathery miss in Dextera's arms to Dex, smile softening a little.]
Thanks for keeping an eye on all of them, it's kind of-- well, a bit of a work in progress, I guess. Joshua and I helped a lot on our friend's family farm growing up, but we never built one of these.
no subject
It’ll be incredible. [ he seems confident in that, even if he shouldn’t be. ] You’re a good team.
[ he just can’t be mean to her, all right. ]

Minato spends a lot of time walking through Bluo when he has extra time, so it's probably not a surprise that he ends up drawn by the noise.
That said... this looks like...]
... What are you guys doing...?
no subject
[ Pancake is taking advantage of the momentary distraction to run up and start pecking amongst the pile of nails Joshua's salvaged from around town. Surely there's something more interesting and edible in there than just a bunch of bits of metal!
Pancake is going to be terribly disappointed, but Joshua digs a crumb of something out of his pocket and throws it to the other side of the yard to distract her. ]
no subject
For the sake of the chickens? I guess that makes sense.
[Hm...]
How's it going, exactly?
no subject
[ You know, just don't name the ones he's going to have to kill. ]
I think I've got a decent idea of how this needs to go. It's just a matter of making it happen.
[ He's the man with the plan! And Estelle is here to hold boards upside down and look so good doing it. ]
no subject
That's a good idea, honestly. The more sources of food we have, the better.
[It's good...]
Is there anything I can help with? Or have you got it pretty much covered?

[...Estelle says that, but in reality, this project probably wouldn't be very 5 star if it wasn't for Joshua's abilities.]
no subject
Well, that's a good goal.
[He approves.]
How's it going so far? It looks...
[...]
Well, I can tell it's a chicken coop.
no subject
[A long, long way from five-star, but they're giving it their best effort, ok.]
Eheheh.... we've got the base set up, at least? Shouldn't be too hard going from there, right?
no subject
I... think so? Probably. I've never made one before, but you guys seem to be off to a pretty good start.
[Mostly.]
It'd be helpful if we had some instructions or something though, huh...?
