WHO: Minato and youuuu
WHERE: The town, the woods, everywhere in between
WHEN: June 3 - June 10
WHAT: Lack of sleep does some unfortunate things to people, it really does. ie punishments really, really suck
WARNINGS: A lot of this is just very, very dumb
June 3/4
[At first, he's just miserable. A night or two without sleep is doable, but really, really awful, and so Minato can be found mostly wandering, restless, especially late at night. Which is very, very unusual for him (usually he'd be asleep by now), but don't mind him as he stalks about the town with his hands shoved deeply into his pockets, occasionally stopping to yawn massively and lean against a wall.
He always ends up standing back up pretty promptly, though, no matter how sleepy he looks.
Weird.
Or he might come visit at some obscene hour of the morning if he thinks your character will be awake, almost desperate to talk to someone to get his mind off of this. He will definitely knock on doors at all hours of the night if he thinks your character would sincerely be awake at that time of night.
Please help him.]
June 5/6
[It gets much, much worse. Minato's wanderings are almost desperate now; lying down does nothing, leaning against things does nothing, he cannot sleep no matter what he does and it's starting to take its toll. He's definitely stumbling, staggering occasionally as if drunk, and if you try to stop him he may not even process that you're calling out to him.
Hm.
Worrisome.
It probably comes to a worrisome head when he's crossing one of the bridges in Bluo, feet dragging--and then sways, and topples right off the side, blacking out for a brief moment. Bye, Minato.]
June 8
[At this point he probably shouldn't be outside but he's here anyway, and he seems to be...talking to a tree? He's trying, but he clearly thinks it's someone he knows, and while his voice is low and slurred, he is trying to legitimately have a conversation with this tree.
It's probably a good thing he stopped to talk to the tree instead of wandering into the woods in this state? Maybe you should call out to him...
But he's definitely hallucinating, and only seems to notice if he's not interrupted when he stumbles, and knocks his head against said tree, startling back to himself abruptly with both hands clasped to his forehead.
And then he thumps his forehead against the tree again, this time purposefully and with plain aggravation.]

the guy doesn't sound certain at all, but dirk will adjust his grip a little for more comfort and go into the direction he waved in for a lack of knowing what else to do. ]
Yeah, that's ectobiology for you.
[ another thing that makes perfect sense. ]
Are you sure it's this way? I could take you to Dave's place too or... I don't know, mine if you want somewhere quiet to rest? I don't have any roommates.
no subject
But that's also kind of ridiculously kind, and Minato hesitates for a moment before he has to admit:]
I'm... not really sure.
[He's so out of it right now.]
You really don't mind...?
no subject
I don't mind.
[ an easy response. maybe he should be more wary of potentially taking a stranger home or maybe even lugging one around like this, but the dude knows dave and that's good enough for dirk. ]
I'll take you wherever you want to go, you're in no condition to roam around on your own.
no subject
He just kind of mumbles something, rubbing his eye sleepily.]
...Thanks. You're...a really nice person. [He doesn't know you but that just makes it extra kind!!]
no subject
he honestly has no idea how to respond to being called a nice person — he sure as shit doesn't consider himself such — so he settles for an awkward: ]
Don't know about that, but no problem.
[ and because having any kind of positivity pointed his way makes him distinctly uncomfortable, he's moving right along to get past that subject. ]
How come you're out here like this?
no subject
Hm...
[That's very Dave of you, Dirk.]
I guess I was just... kind of going a little crazy trying to stay in when I couldn't sleep anyway... I thought a walk might help.
[It Did Not.]
no subject
Fair enough, but I'm amazed you even managed to get past your door like this.
[ a walk seems like a terrible idea when you can barely manage to stay upright, but okay.
he hesitates only a tiny moment before asking the next question. he's not the best at tact, but he tries: ]
Do you usually have trouble sleeping?
no subject
No, never...
[He can sleep Anywhere, this is very distressing that he suddenly can't.]
I'm pretty sure it's my punishment for not passing the quest before. It's... pretty troublesome.
[Understatement.]
no subject
Dude, I'd say troublesome is putting it mildly. That's one hell of a punishment.
[ it's downright cruel and bringing him somewhere quiet to rest obviously isn't going to help, but oh well. at least he won't be toppling off any bridges.
dirk isn't used to carrying people so it's a good thing his house is already coming into view and he's touching down in front of it quickly. it's about five minutes away from dave and john's house so that's still an option too. ]
Here we are.
[ he'll carefully set minato down, freeing up an arm so he can open the door and keeping the other around him to help keep him upright if necessary. ]
no subject
And he'll need that support at that, yawning sleepily and swaying into Dirk's arm.
He's doing his best, it's just that his best isn't very good anymore.]
Well... I've got people like you helping me out, so it's really not as bad as it could be.
[Optimism!!
...Tired optimism.]
no subject
That's an optimistic way of looking at it.
[ it's the kind of optimism he could be jealous of, really.
given that minato has trouble even standing upright, he'll just pick him up again and carry him over to the couch. one corner of it is already occupied by a puppet, but dirk moves it to the floor so minato can lie down if he wants to. the rest of the living room area is pretty unremarkable, there's the couch, a coffee table, a dresser, and a shelf with some plushies on it and a shitty sword resting against the wall. ]
You can use my laptop if there's anyone who might be wondering where you went.
[ he motions to where it is on the coffee table before walking back to close the door behind them. ]
no subject
And closes it.
And opens it again.
He's trying to process his questions, okay, bear with him.]
Thank you... it should be okay. I haven't been gone long.
[Vriska will kick his ass if he's gone long even if he sends her a message, after all.
... also he just can't think of the right way to phrase a question right now, so instead he'll just admit ruefully:]
I don't understand the puppet I don't think.
no subject
he nods to the statement, figuring he knows his roommates best if he has them, before he's glancing down at cal at the rueful admittance. he's... not sure what minato means by that? but he's picking the puppet up and depositing it in his own lap so it's facing minato too. ]
This is Lil Cal. He's my best friend. [ just said plainly without any hint of shame whatsoever. it's like he doesn't even comprehend that that could be considered a sad or embarrassing thing. ] What don't you understand about him?
no subject
Minato has to take it seriously too, right?
That's just the right thing to do. So he'll clear his throat.]
Is that how it is...? I didn't realize. Did he come from home with you?
no subject
he nods, setting cal back down on the ground next to him again because apparently he does have enough self-awareness not to cuddle his puppet in front of other people. ]
I actually lost him months ago back home, but he was there in the well when I arrived. I heard a lot of people had personal items show up when they got here so I guess he was mine.
no subject
That's pretty lucky then... maybe when we find a way out of this place, you can bring him with you. It'll be like you never lost him.
[That's one positive thing out of being kidnapped, right?]
no subject
[ he's glancing down at cal a brief moment, bolstered by that thought. he never understood what callie's bro meant by "there can only be one version" but if he can just take cal back from this place then that works, right? right.
he looks back up at minato again, considering. ]
You're a pretty optimistic kind of guy, aren't you?
no subject
[Minato just shrugs a little, stifling a yawn behind a hasty hand brought up to his mouth.]
That's just how I feel, that's all.
I think it's easy to see the negative here, but... it's not so bad in some ways too.
no subject
I agree there. This place isn't all bad, it's better than where I came from anyway.
[ also, he's being a bad host, isn't he? he's not used to having people other than dave over, but he's seen enough movies to know you're supposed to offer something, right? so: ]
Do you want something to drink? I've got water and orange soda, but that's about it as far as choices go. At least it's one, I guess?
no subject
But still, it's sad.]
... Then I hope you can stay here as long as you want to.
[He thinks that's the least he can hope for. Either way, though--
He blinks, a little surprised.]
You have orange soda?
no subject
but all the same, he says: ]
Thanks.
[ ANYWAY orange soda is clearly the more thrilling subject here and so far he hasn't met anyone who is as keen on it as he is. ]
Yeah, I had orange soda with me when I got here. I have all sorts of brands. Do you want some?
no subject
There really isn't any other soda here at all... you should really save it. It's something kind of special in a place like this.
[Which is so lacking in things he misses like soda and coffee and takoyaki and pizza.]
no subject
It's fine, I have plenty to spare. My bro had my apartment stocked with a lifetime supply of it, I had some in my sylladex when I arrived here.
no subject
[He hasn't had soda in months now, so--]
I'd like some. It feels like it's been ages since I've had anything processed like that, since everything here is... just whatever we can scavenge.
no subject
[ he'll get up and momentarily disappear into the kitchen where he has stashed some of his soda. 'momentarily' being a second or two as he flashsteps and then he's back with a fanta bottle in his hand that he holds out to minato. ]
Here. I do have other brands if you prefer a different one.
