I'm here now. I was just finishing up making some barrels.
[For things.]
So! Story telling?
no subject
Story telling. If that quest really wasn't a one-time thing I guess it is safe to say we will be doing this a lot. Anybody else feel like the way it was worded was kind of...I don't know, not that helpful?
no subject
[Izuku cups his chin in one hand thoughtfully.] Understand the worth of a story? That could mean a lot of things. If I had to guess, if three participants is the requirement, then the quest might involve all of us sharing a story. The question is, what kind of story are we looking at? Something we made up or something we heard from someone else?
no subject
[That's how she sees it, anyway.]
We can try it, and if that works then great. If not...we'll have shared something important, and that's not bad?
no subject
[He leans back a little, careful not to fall into the well itself.]
You two are from the same place. Do you guys have a story that means something to your world in particular?
no subject
I...I mean, Yaoyorozu-san and I are both training to be heroes. [He fiddles with his sleeves now, sounding unusually bashful.] I think all of us aiming for that kind of job have looked up to certain heroes before.. um, experiences that made us want to become heroes in the first place.
Stories like that should be meaningful enough to count. [Now he looks between the two of them.] Right?
no subject
[Momo, showing no trace of his embarrassment or bashfulness, just nods.]
If you'd like to go first, Izuku-kun, why don't you? I don't mind.

Okay, then I'll go first! [Where should he even start? It's All Might! There's so much that he would love to talk about. Izuku tugs on his bottom lip nervously for a moment, then brightens up, practically sparkling as he remembers the first time he'd seen All Might.]
I guess, the first time I wanted to be a hero was when I saw the video of All Might's hero debut. Someone so incredible and skilled..to be able to save so many people in such a short time, of course he left a strong impression on me. [The more he speaks, the more steady he seems to become, lips even curling up into a gentle smile as he stares off to the side.] The thing is, I've watched that video over and over again since then--even recently. Because even the younger me knew that was the kind of hero I wanted to be. It's not just his quirk that makes him the greatest hero. He's the kind of hero who could smile even in the worst of times, whose smile could reassure everyone that everything would be okay in the end.
[Izuku laughs a bit sheepishly, rubbing at his neck as he finally trails off.] Ah, I know it'll probably be impossible to measure up against someone like All Might, but I want to follow his example anyway. He's...the kind of hero that inspires that feeling in the people around them, you know?
no subject
All Might is definitely one of the most influential people in our world.
[Turning to John, she smiles quietly, inwardly wondering what he must think of people like them. Knowing what she knew about him...]
The reason I want to be a hero isn't because of All Might, though. I respect All Might and his story, but there is no way someone like me could ever quite measure up to him. [Because, ironically, her Quirk just isn't that flashy and eye catching. It makes it difficult for her to do things the same way, and she's canny enough to realize that.]
I just wanted to help people out. However, I never realized just how much he meant to you, Izuku-kun. I knew you were a fan, but...
[She shrugs helplessly.]
I think I understand better, now.

That's a really cool way of going about it, I think. Admiring someone for the impressions they leave instead of their abilities. He must be a really good hero if you've admired him for that long, Izuku. And I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to help people out. You guys are both kind of considered heroes now, aren't you?
no subject
And...Helping people is always a good reason, Yaoyorozu-san. [He's quick to jump in and reassure her. Then, the smile returns. To anyone who's seen Izuku in peak All Might fanboy mode, it's obvious how much more personal this is, something closer to his heart than his usual ramblings. The adoration is still there, but the excitement's been tempered into something warmer.]
He just makes people feel safer, you know? And, well... [Izuku's gaze flickers over to Momo specifically, something hesitant in his expression before he continues.] He was the first one who believed I could be a hero in the first place. If it wasn't for him, I might not have applied to U.A. at all.
no subject
We're both still first years. We have two more years and several examinations to pass before we're legally considered heroes. Plus, insurance to gather and other things.
[She stops talking when she realizes something's up with Izuku, focusing on him now. She's not heard this part. She just knew he was a fanboy.]
Is that so. Just because he was a teacher with us, or was there something more?
no subject
Ohh...I guess that makes sense, otherwise just about anybody could be a hero and that sounds like it could be a mess. [He looks up at Izuku again.] It sounds like he said something to you that was really inspiring.
no subject
Um... he just said "You can be a hero." It...doesn't sound like much, but after you've been told the opposite for a long time...
[He trails off shakes his head.] A-anyway, Yaoyorozu-san. Was there any moment that it really hit you that you wanted to become a hero and help people? O-or another hero that you really looked up to...

It was my parents. And...well, it was actually a lecture they gave me on responsibility. Not really a great story, in my opinion. It just sort of clicked when they told me that I needed to use my quirk responsibly. To me that meant helping people, because if I have the ability to protect people why wouldn't I become a hero?
[Simple enough, and not much of a story. She has something else in mind, but wants time to put it together in her head.]
no subject
[He looks genuinely pleased.] You guys make it all sound really cool. Like you set out to become heroes and now you are actually making that happen. It's even better since we definitely need people like that here, I think.
no subject
[Izuku blushes now.] If we've been able to help everyone here even a little, then that means we're all on the right track, at least.
no subject
[Taking her license, Momo tucks it away and turns back to John.]
What about you? Tell us about yourself. Some of your story.
no subject
Well. Everything started with a video game. It's called Sburb, and we were talking about it for a while before the whole thing started. Me, Dave, my sister Jade, and his sister Rose. We didn't know we were related at the time though, that came later. Anyway so we were all waiting for the beta to show up so we could play together even if Dave kept insisting he wasn't going to play. So when we started playing, that is when things got really weird. We had to deploy a whole bunch of machines and stuff, make items to help us and we ended up creating our sprites and everything. All four of us had to be connected via server-client before everything exploded though. Once the universe ended though that's when the game itself really started, like as soon as we entered the Medium.
Once we were there, we had to build up our houses and everything so we can get through the gates to travel to our planets and stuff.
My nanna seemed to know what was going on before I even existed because timeline shenanigans, I guess, but she left me a note that I found several years later when the game started.
[He remembers it, at least, because it was bizarre.] "You will soon delve even deeper into a realm of Warring Royalty in a Timeless Expanse. A realm of Agents and Exiles and Consorts and Kernelsprites. Of toiling Underlings and slumbering Denizens. A realm where four will gather, the Heir of Breath and Seer of Light, the Knight of Time and Witch of Space, and together they will Ascend."
It sounds crazy when you put it that way, but that is exactly what happened. There was a battlefield on Skaia and Jack Noir was in there fucking everything up, but it wasn't just Jack. And in the end, we met people like Vriska and Terezi and a bunch of our other friends who'd already played through their game session. They were watching us for years and kind of weirdly guiding us.
And in the end...[Hm.] We had to start over anyway. That universe was officially broken and we needed to do the Scratch. I became a god first, and the other three followed after that and we left behind the universe as it collapsed and started a three year journey to the new one.
[Eheh.] Jade and I were separated from Dave and Rose for a long time. But it'll be worth it in the end when everything is better.
[Sorry about Homestuck and sorry John doesn't always get Homestuck.]
no subject
I remember Strider-kun mentioning the video game before. He's the Knight of Time, right? Which one of the four were you?
[He watches John with a look of sympathy.]
It sounds like you and your friends have really been through a lot.
no subject
You're the heir of breath. Aren't you? That's why you can fly.
no subject
[But...there's a slightly awkward smile.] A lot of things have happened in the last three years, but I think in the end it'll be okay. Whenever it finishes. That is all I can hold onto at this point.
no subject
Jade...is she the sunshiney one?
[The smile's returned with one that's just as awkward.] I think so, too, Egbert-kun. You got to see Strider-kun here even though you were separated back home. Isn't that a good sign that things will work out?
no subject
Absolutely it will. Have faith, and everything will be fine. Even if it's just faith in yourself. Because you mold your future, you know?
