WARNINGS: Two gunslingers walk into a forest and...
[ Saeki meets Maya at the appointed place after taking a little time to clean his shotgun and twin pistols. They always hide neatly under his cape, ready to be drawn when he needs them, though he tries to make a point to not need them very often.
This feels a little more like doing his usual work, so it's exciting in a way. It feels almost relieving to have a little normalcy, even if he doesn't have his usual partners to work with. Maya is a more than acceptable alternative to his team, though. She's kind, optimistic and seems very capable. He's typically the only gunner, so it'll be interesting to work with her.
When he sees her, he takes his hat off and gives her a short bow in greeting. ]

[ As she extends her hand-- even though he's probably one of the more chill people she's met. ]

[ He laughs a little before reaching out and taking her hand in his own. Her calm demeanor makes him feel confident this will go alright. He looks forward to seeing her skills. ]
Let's be off, then. I've never tracked a chimera before, so this will be new.

[ And shoot the hell out of it. But she nods and takes the lead, cheerily tugging at his hand. ]

[ Between the two of them, he's sure they have enough skill. He lets her lead without question, excited to dip into the forest again. He's explored it a little, but never with great purpose. ]
I think tracking it will be the bigger challenge.

[ That sure smells like something burning in the distance, and she's turning her head towards it. ]

[ he doesn't have anything that would be useful for that. Damn, he hates not being prepared. The perfect student part of his heart is reeling. ]

[ And hopefully not run right into a chimera.

[ There is absolutely going to be a chimera.
He absolutely catches sight of something prowling and stops, tugging her hand. He speaks quietly. ]
Maya... that way, I think.

[ it's his turn to squeeze her hand. ]
If not, we just have to take it down head on. Let's go... keep low for now.

[ She's going to assume he means low as in "crouched" and not "flat on the stomach army crawl", so she's not immediately going to hit the deck and instead lowers herself down to proceed at a slower pace.
Thankfully, it doesn't seem to have noticed them yet, but who knows how long that will remain true. ]
