Endgame Pt. 2.




I had a little nut tree,
Nothing would it bear,
But a silver nutmeg
And a golden pear;




t's nearing the end.

The atmosphere in the Town is different now. There's a hush, as if the entire world is expecting something, watching and waiting and prepared for some final outcome --

And then it happens.

The trees come surging forward suddenly, intensely, aggressively. It's a fierce attack a determined attack, branchy limbs trying to take down human and building alike in the Town. But the attack reeks, too, of desperation.

It's the last battle, the last chance to bring about a happy ending. What will you do?

Tonbokiri lifts his head from his search at that exclamation.

"It includes objectionable details as well?"

He'll find out for himself when he at last finds his page. (It was among the very last pages he checked!)

Standing as he glances over the information, he is surprised at the through detail. Some of this he would consider confidential to Aruji alone. And--!

"While true, they certainly did not have to put it that way." Enough of that. He places the page inside the front of his vest, keeping it as flat as he can.

Now, for the return trip...

Keigo watches Tonbokiri tuck his page away and tries to think of how he can keep his page safe during the long trip back to town. All he has are pockets, but this doesn't seem like the kind of thing he should fold into quarters. Still looking down at the paper, he turns around, until something he notices out of the corner of his eye makes him look up sharply.

"Uh...Tonbokiri?"

Maybe that "long trip back" isn't such a concern. The cliff is gone, even the woods, and they're on the edge of Chroma.

Usually, his name being said in that tone means that there is an enemy nearby, so Tonbokiri turns around quickly, spear at the ready-- and he sees what Asano saw.

"The town?!"

To say he is bewildered would be an understatement, but he is also immediately grateful. Not going to lie, getting down that cliff was going to be worse than going up.

"I suppose there is some good magic left in this forest yet?"

OK, Tonbokiri sees it, too, so it's not another trick. They really do get to come back home so easily.

"For once, it knows when we've been through en- Tree!" Just your basic attacking tree heading for them now that they've broken free from the enchantment. Not everything can be perfect.

That shout of 'Tree!' was much more what he was expecting, honestly.

"I shall not leave your side until our pages are with the book."

And true to his word, Tonbokiri will cut his way through the trees so that he and Asano can get into town safely.

Tonbokiri shall applaud Asano for a task well done today, and that he can rest secure in the knowledge that the requirement has been met for him to return home.

(Rest well, Asano-dono! Tonbokiri has to go inquire after a certain Archer why his page isn't in the book yet...)
